Students: Ways to Join a Teacher's Class

There are a few different ways to join a teacher's class in Newsela. Your teacher will need to tell you which option your class is using. To get started, select the option that your teacher uses.

To join a class that a teacher created within Newsela, follow these steps:

  1. Ask your teacher for the Class Link or the Class Code
    They can find this on their Newsela settings page under the Classes tab.

    • Class Link

      • Go to the Class Link. By following the on-screen instructions to sign in or create an account, join the class.

    • Class Code

      • Go to newsela.com.

      • Click your initials in the upper right-hand corner.

      • Click Settings.

      • Scroll down to Classes. 

      • Add the class code where it says “enter code here” and click the blue Join class button.

Didn't get a class code? Contact your teacher.

When your teacher imports your class from Google Classroom, you are automatically added to that class within Newsela.

You can sign in and view your classes by following these steps:

  1. Go to newsela.com.

  2. Click Sign In

  3. Select Sign in with Google and make sure to select your school Google account. 

  4. To be sure that you have joined the class,

    • Click your initials in the upper right corner.

    • Click Settings.

    • Scroll down to Classes.

    • Under Classes, you will see a list of your classes.

You can sign in and view your classes by going through your school's Clever portal and clicking on the Newsela app or by following these steps:

  1. Go to newsela.com.

  2. Click Sign In

  3. Select Sign in with Clever

  4. To be sure that you are in your teacher's class

    • Click your initials in the upper right corner.

    • Click Settings.

    • Scroll down to Classes.

    • Under Classes, you will see a list of your classes.

You can sign in and view your classes by following these steps:

  1. Log in to Canvas. 

  2. Open a class

  3. Click on the Newsela link in the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen to open Newsela.

  4. Click your initials in the upper right hand corner.

  5. Click Settings.

  6. Scroll to the Classes section to view your classes in Newsela.

You can sign in and view your classes by following these steps:

  1. Login to Schoology. 

  2. Open a class.

  3. Click on the Newsela link in the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen to open Newsela.

  4. Click your initials in the upper right hand corner to access Settings.

  5. Scroll down to Classes to see your classes in Newsela.

If you joined Newsela by using Microsoft to sign in, you'll need a class code to join a class. To join a class that a teacher created within Newsela, follow these steps:

  1. Ask your teacher for the Class Link or the Class Code.They can find this on their Newsela settings page under the Classes tab. 

  2. Join the class with the Class Link or the Class Code. Follow the steps below for the one you are using. As you sign in, you'll see an option to Sign in with Microsoft

    • Class Link

      • Go to the Class Link. By following the on-screen instructions to sign in or create an account, join the class.

    • Class Code

      • Go to newsela.com.

      • Click your initials in the upper right-hand corner.

      • Click Settings

      • Scroll down to the classes section of your account page, enter the Class Code in the box and click "Join class."

Didn't get a class code? Contact your teacher.

You have already been added to your classes by your school's ClassLink administrator. You can sign in and view your classes by following these steps:

  1. Go to your school's ClassLink portal. 

  2. Click on the Newsela icon. This will take you to Newsela and sign you in to your account.

  3. To make sure that you have joined the class,

    • Click your initials in the upper right hand corner.

    • Click Settings.

    • Scroll to the Classes section to view your classes in Newsela.

If your teacher gave you a Class Link or Class Code, select the Class Code option above or read more about this option here. If not, you can sign in to Newsela and go to your Settings page to see if you have already been added to a class. If you still need help, please ask your teacher.
